From the days of Thomas Jefferson and the Louisiana Purchase to Franklin Pierce and the Kansas-Nebraska Act, to Abraham Lincoln’s vision for a trans-continental railroad and Theodore Roosevelt’s many speeches in the region, American presidents have shaped Omaha’s formative years. But a number of crises developed throughout the 19th century into the 20th that tested the White House as well as our local community.
